Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo and fellow mayors took Scania’s bioethanol bus to the Climate Summit for Local Leaders, held during the COP21 United Nation’s Conference on Climate Change.
This “bus for the climate” is powered by bioethanol, produced from residue by the world’s third largest sugar-producing company, Tereos. French legislation will in early 2016 be amended to permit ED95 fuel, which can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90 percent.
“Bioethanol is one the most viable renewable fuels for urban transport,” said Mats Gunnarsson, Managing Director of Scania France. “It constitutes a simple way of establishing a sustainable transport system.”
